St Landry Catholic Church, Opelousas, LA

St. Landry Catholic Church is the second largest church in the south and the second oldest parish in the diocese of Lafayette. There is enough history surrounding the St. Landry Church Parish for an entire web site. But it is worth noting that in the early seventeen hundreds, the area of what is now known as Opelousas was settled by a number of Catholics, many of whom were from Nova Scotia and had no established parish in which to worship. Construction for the existing church shown in the pictures below was started in September, 1903.

There is no doubt that this is a Holy place; the atmosphere around the church is filled Holiness that I regretfully could not capture in the these pictures! But, there is no denying the feeling of God! I hope you enjoy.
