This week I have pictures of St. Jules Catholic Church located at 116 St. Jules Street in Lafayette, Louisiana. I was not able to find a web site for St. Jules; therefore I do not have a lot of information about this nice church.

This is a picture of the hall behind the church. The church is blessed with several nice halls and meeting rooms.

Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Broussard, LA

Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard, Louisiana was founded in 1883. The current Church building was built and dedicated in 1954. It seats approximately 500 parishioners. In 2004, the Church embarked on a major expansion program that included a large “Narthex” or “Gathering Space”, (an enclosed foyer for parishioners to gather before and after services), a new Administrative Center and a Parish Life Center were built. Enjoy the pictures.

St Landry Catholic Church, Opelousas, LA

St. Landry Catholic Church is the second largest church in the south and the second oldest parish in the diocese of Lafayette. There is enough history surrounding the St. Landry Church Parish for an entire web site. But it is worth noting that in the early seventeen hundreds, the area of what is now known as Opelousas was settled by a number of Catholics, many of whom were from Nova Scotia and had no established parish in which to worship. Construction for the existing church shown in the pictures below was started in September, 1903.

There is no doubt that this is a Holy place; the atmosphere around the church is filled Holiness that I regretfully could not capture in the these pictures! But, there is no denying the feeling of God! I hope you enjoy.

Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Opelousas, LA

Sorry for not posting any pictures last week, but I have been extremely busy. I hope these great pictures make up for the lack of a post last week. This week I have pictures of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church located on the south side of Opelousas, Louisiana. The first Mass at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church took place in October 1968 in a combination church and catechetical hall. My wife and I were married in the hall more than 33 years ago; this was before the current church was built. The current church (shown in the pictures below) was completed in November 1982.

The sign below should not be required, but unfortunately many Catholics must be reminded on a weekly basis that Jesus Christ is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament! God help us to return to a prayerful people that respects Oh Mighty GOD! It would be great if we no longer had to post these signs at the doors of God's house.

Below are pictures of the Perpetual Eucharist Adoration Chapel; a wonderful place of prayer in which the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for perpetual adoration.

Asbury United Methodist Church, Lafayette, LA

This time we are presenting pictures of Asbury United Methodist Church located at 101 Live Oak Blvd. Lafayette, LA. Unfortunately, the web site does not provide a founding date or other information that I always find interesting.

Below are pictures of the school at Asbury. This is a new addition that is only a few years old.

St. Edmond Church, Lafayette, LA

St Edmond Catholic Church is located at the corner of West Congress and Ambassador Caffery Parkway. The name of the Patron Saint of St Edmond Catholic Church is St. Edmund. Edmund was correctly spelled with a "u". However, the name was changed in honor of Mr. Edmond Orgeron, who was the owner of the land on which the present church was built.

The location of St. Edmond Church Parish is on a twelve acre parcel of land that had been owned by Our Lady of Fatima Church Parish since 1960. At that time, Our Lady of Fatima Parish, through its Auxiliary Bishop Robert Tracy, purchased ten acres of land from the Edmond A. Orgeron family. The Orgeron family graciously donated two acres of land to Fatima Church with the stipulation that once a church parish was established, the name of the parish would be St. Edmond in honor of Edmond A. Orgeron. When a parish was established in May 1974, the wish of the Orgeron family was honored and St. Edmond was the name of the new parish.

St. Edmond Church Parish was constituted on May 29, 1974 by the Most Reverend Gerald L. Frey, Bishop of Lafayette and placed in the care of the Washington Province of the Society of Mary, the Marist Fathers. The Reverend Charles Barrett, L.M., Marist Provincial, appointed Father Thomas C. Dowling, S.M. as Associate Pastor. St. Edmond Parish was formed from the surrounding church parishes of our Lady of Fatima, St. Jules, Holy Cross and Sts. Peter and Paul in Scott.
