St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church-Lafayette

These pictures are of the Saint Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church located at the corner of Moss Street and Rain Tree Trail in north Lafayette, Louisiana. The parish was established on the same day that Elizabeth Ann Seton was Canonized a saint on September 14, 1975.

The present church building was completed and dedicated on September 14, 2000, the 25th anniversary of the founding of the parish. These pictures were taken late in the afternoon and are darker than I would like for them to be. Maybe next time I can get pictures during the brighter time of day. Remember to click on the pictures for a larger view.

What an inviting entrance?

The parish symbol consists of a host in the center of a heart. The host and grains of wheat represent St. Elizabeth's great love for the Eucharist. The cross and thorns represent Christ's suffering and her own. The five flowers under the initials (EAS) represent her five children.

Immaculate Conception, Lebeau, LA

These pictures are of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located in Lebeau, Louisiana. The location was originally called the Petite Prairie after the bayou that flows through the area. From 1874-1897 the Catholic community in the area was served by a priest who came from Washington, LA. In 1897 the Josephite Fathers assumed responsibility for ministry in the area and the place was named Lebeau after its first pastor, Father Oscar Pierre Lebeau, SSJ

The current church building shown in these pictures was built in 1954 and replaced the original church. Follow this link to learn more about the church: http://www.lebeauchurch.com/. Remember to click on the pictures to get a larger view.

This is a close up of the front of the church below the statue of Mary.

Here are pictures of the First Pentecostal Church of Bayou Rouge (Louisiana). The address is Highway 360, Palmetto, Louisiana 71358. I lived and grew up across the highway from this church for almost 20 years; this was more than 30 years ago. The outside has not changed in those 30 years. The picture below was taken through a window because the church was locked and I was not able to get inside.

Introduction

This is my first attempt at a blog of church photos. The photos will be my own and will begin with the churches of south Louisiana. I am hopeful that pictures of churches from other areas can be added as my photography skills improve and I can travel to other areas of the country (US that is).
